Yes, this really is John in a Judo outfit.

From the age of 13, John did Judo for four years. Every weekend he would take part in competitions even travelling to Holland to fight once.

This picture was taken after his greatest fight ever, winning the East of England championships.

"It was through Judo that I first wanted to go to Japan." says John, "I never thought I'd live there for six years though!"
