Cabin
Wow, what a day. Nagasaki is fascinating. A day did not do it justice. Up pretty early and out into town. Drove first of all to the Peace Park. Saw the statue and square where the memorial ceremonies are held every year. Wandered through gardens down the hill to the Hypocentre Park - under site of the explosion. Contemplated the scene as wave after wave of high school kids poured through laughing and joking and doing their hair in preparation for the obligatory school photographs. Sad to see. Awesome place to sit and think. Then to amazing A-Bomb Musuem which was so informative. Back in the car. Drove to hill where 26 Christians were martyred by the shoguns a while back. Stood and contemplated some more. Visited strange museum which seemed to be about everything and nothing behind memorial. Walked along hill to Fukusaiji Zen Temple which defined the word bizarre, staffed by a woman who defined the word eccentric. She showed me and two others who were willing to pay, a Foucault Pendulum while cackling away in mostly gibberish. Back in car to final sight of the day as sun set - one legged torii gate. Dad then wanders up the path and stumbles on an amazing find - the camphor trees! Stephen nags at us to head for a shopping mall (?). We oblige but it is late in the day and we are tired. Fall into cabin with much to meditate on from this day!
