Itinerary:
Amanohashidate Campsite »
Ine »
Tango Peninsula »
Tottori Campsite
We were up at 6 as the fishermen drove out past our tents. We packed up and spent an hour or so wandering along the pine beach strip that is Amanohashidate. Supposed to be one of top three views in Japan. We voted that it doesn't even make the top thirty. Headed up a mountain to a Buddhist temple where we thought we'd have a great view. Priest wanted to charge us a fortune for simply driving up there. Left immediately and took photos of beautiful flowers on way down. Drove up coast to fishing village of Ine and pottered around. Very peaceful. Talked to old fisherwomen as they dried squid. Drove on along beautiful Tango peninsula taking in gorgeous seascapes. Stopped for lunch at a greasy spoon cafe with a tremendous view to make up for the terrible food served by a woman with a hacking cough. Drove on to Tottori pausing to photograph superb sunset. Arrived after dark at City campsite to find it FREE with private bath! Went for moonlit walk across dunes to the sea - surreal. That night it poured with rain and blew a gale. Had to get up in the night and go out and bale water off tent.
